10 Reasons to Eat More Seafood in 2021

Eating more seafood is on the top of our New Year’s resolution list. In this article, we wanted to share with you our reasons for adopting a more fish-friendly year. So, without further ado, here are the top 10 reasons we’re eating more seafood in 2021.

1.) Seafood = Brain Food

I don’t know about you, but 2020 definitely drained my brain. So a little “grey matter boosting” is just what I need for a fresh start to 2021 ~and with that, a more seafood centric diet.

Studies have shown that by just increasing your weekly quotient of seafood by 1 additional meal per week can drastically increase your brain function. These same studies have found folks whose diets heavily focus on seafood have a lower risk of dementia and Alzheimer’s.

2.) Sustainable Seafood Makes Everyone Happy

Supporting a seafood supply chain that cares about the future of our oceans and rivers makes everyone happy. Sustainability, and a commitment to waterway preservation, is why Cameron’s makes buying seafood easy and environmentally friendly.

3.) Mediterranean Love

As far as diets go, the Mediterranean Diet is one of the more delicious and less restrictive of the bunch (making it a much easier commitment). One of the best things about the Mediterranean Diet is the bountiful seafood it promotes. Served alongside fresh vegetables and hearty whole grains, whats not to love!

4.) Good Mood Food

Yes, the power that seafood has on lifting our moods! Take, for instance, mood enhancing foods like salmon, trout and tuna. These seafood health mavens are high in Omega-3’s, which aid in our brain function. Our central nervous system, being lipid-dense and in need of good fats regularly, get’s a gentle boost when we consume foods high in Omega-3’s and a reduction in inflammation.

5.) Protein Packed

Seafood contains loads of high-quality, lean protein, many of the essential proteins (amino acids) necessary for an overall healthy diet. A literally sea of nutrient dense dinner options. Of the top protein contributors, we’re looking forward to feasts of salmon, trout, tuna, crab and shrimp.

6.) Adaptable

Every cuisine-type on this great big planet includes seafood, making fish and shellfish some of the most adaptable culinary ingredients ever! Tacos, paellas, stir-fries, soups, casseroles and pasta, the variety of dishes you can make with seafood is endless ~and in 2021, we’re definitely exploring.

7.) Variety

There is something for everyone from the sea. If you’re a fan of milder seafood, try crab, shrimp, lobster or scallops. If you’re all-in for bold and meaty cuts of fish, try salmon, tuna, swordfish. It’s the very variety of seafood that makes our mouth water for delicious things to come in 2021.

8.) Supporting Small Seafood Businesses

All of the crabbers, fishermen and watermen in our network are small family operations and businesses, many celebrating generations of working on the water. Buying our seafood helps continue their work and legacy.

9.) Quick Dinner Fix

Time is still an issue for many when it comes to making delicious and nutritious meals at home. One of the many glories of seafood, is that it’s very lean nature makes it a quick-fix meal. Cooking in half the time as chicken, pork or beef. We have oodles of recipes to inspire you on your seafood filled New Year.

10.) Nutritional Superstar

Overall, and compared to other protein sources, seafood is absolutely a nutritional superstar! A superfood, rich in healthy fats, vitamins, minerals and protein. Each variety of fish or shellfish brings their own macro and micro benefits to the table.
