How to Make the Most of your Seafood: Fish

Fish is fabulous! The easiest protein for meal prepping all while adding some much need diversity to your recipe database. Packed with nutrients and one of the greatest sources for lean protein. Making the most out of your fish is a great way to ensure a healthy diet (and a delicious one to boot).

Today we’ll hone in on the four most popular fish species, those that offer the most versatility for cooking as well as the most densely nutrient rich: Salmon, Tilapia, Cod and Tuna.

Further, we’ll take these fab fishes and get them out of the just-for-dinner designation. We give you some creative fish recipe ideas to add into your breakfast and lunch routine.

Salmon

Cameron’s Seafood offers some of the best Atlantic salmon on the market. Sweet, fresh, perfectly pink and jam packed with vital Omega-3’s. The most popular of the popular bunch, and always a crowd pleaser.

Tilapia

Tilapia is a fresh tasting lean white fish that is extremely high in protein. Cameron’s Seafood offers only wild caught tilapia, making it the best tasting tilapia available.

Cod

This delicate salt water fish is flaky and versatile. The mild flavor of fresh cod fillets makes it easily adaptable to all cuisine types. Freshly caught in the chilly Alaskan waters and so very delicious.

Tuna

Not at all like the stuff in the can. Fresh tuna has a firm texture, almost like steak, mild flavor and can stand up to some serious cooking applications: grilling, searing and broiling.

Fish Breakfast Ideas

Who says that breakfast is only worthy for protein sources like bacon and sausage. Fresh fish is a leaner, healthier alternative to the traditional.

Salmon is often considered the king of restaurant brunched. For home cooking (and those that don’t have the time to smoke or cure salmon at home). Well seasoned cooked salmon is a great addition to bagels, benedicts and avocado toasts. A little scrambled egg, some feta, chives and some leftover grilled salmon is so perfect.

Tilapia is the fish that was made for frying. Perfect fillet portions fry in no time and are wonderfully adorned on cheesy grits or upmarket seafood take on ‘chicken fried steak’ and eggs. For the other side of fried, I love sautéing in a little butter or olive oil with some capers and herbs and serving with just a simple sunny side up egg. Delish.

Cod was meant for breakfast sandwiches. Served sandwiched with fried eggs, cream cheese, herbs between slices of focaccia or english muffins-superb. Poached and drizzled with a little light vinaigrette served with a soft boiled egg, some fresh greens and thick sliced tomatoes-yum yum.

Tuna is the go-to for all you savory breakfast bowl fans (I am a big fan of the breakfast bowls!). Healthy grains, soft boiled eggs, avocado, greens and some grilled medium rare tuna…Wow, what a breakfast!!

Fish Lunch Ideas

Salmon is the powerhouse protein for lunches. And I think we can all agree that salmon + salads are choice. My favorites are adding salmon to crisp asian slaws, Italian pasta salads, mediterranean tabbouleh salads and cold sesame noodle salads.

Tilapia is a great healthy sandwich protein alternative for cold packed lunches. Green goddess sandwich (cucumbers, sprouts, arugula, avocado, herbs, green goddess dressing and fresh mozz), cold tilapia gyros or hummus and veggie sandwiches with grilled tilapia.

Cod works well for flaked creamy seafood salads for sandwiches or as a salad topper. Sub lobster for a protein packed cod salad roll. Cod salad sandwiches with greens, radishes and  tomatoes on toasted multi-grain (my tummy is growling).  Cod topped over grilled caesar wedge salads, heirloom tomato panzanella salads or summer corn salad…yum yum!

Tuna, if salmon is the powerhouse, tuna is the steam engine. Pan bagnat sandwiches on crusty baguettes, tuna nicoise salads or sandwiches or tuscan tuna salad sandwiches. Tuna burgers topped with any and all savory ingredients. So many options to chose from!
