Seashore Staycation

Just because your Spring Break may have been cancelled doesn’t mean you cant bring the shore home!

We’ve created several ‘staycation’ beach destinations, those popular spring fling locales, and mapped out all the things to eat, drink and vibe to…to make it as close to the real thing as possible.

Cancun

This seaside Mexican resort town is muy caliente! The food, the people and the nightlife…hot hot hot! Recreate this Spring Break destination spot with a little local flavor from the region. The top beachside bungalow meal? Shrimp Ceviche. This chilled and tangy marinated shrimp dish is loaded with citrus, avocado, red onion, tomatoes, chilies and cilantro…all served with some salty tortilla chips~absolutely delicious! Wash it all down with a frozen (or on the rocks) margarita while you marinate in some mezcal and mariachi music.

Seaside Eats: Shrimp Ceviche

Beachy Bevies: Classic Margarita

Setting the Vibe: Mariachi Music or the La + Chingona playlist station on Spotify.

Jamaica

Ahhh, Jamaica-mon. The place where every tourist is treated like royalty, by Jamaica having some of the best resorts in the Caribbean. The comfy (and miraculously temperate) 80°F, cooling ocean breezes, terrific cuisine and funky rhythms…It’s no wonder Jamaica is a list topper for Spring Breakers! Treat yourself, during your in-home break, with a little lux life lobster…a la Jamaica. That is, Grilled Jerk Lobster Tails. I always feel that, as long as it is not raining or snowing, it’s grill time. A butter basted and jerk seasoned lobster is just what you need (with a couple squeezies of lime)~tasty perfection. Mix up a big pitcher of Rum Punch and jam out to the tunes of the island. It’s Irie.

Beachy Bevies: Rum Punch

Setting the Vibe: The Best Music from Jamaica station on Spotify or anything by Bob Marley.

Bahamas

With just a quick jump from Florida, this archipelago is an oasis of over 100,000 square miles of crystal clear ocean. Year-round tropical weather has beach-goers oohing and aahing, but with those that can’t make it to the Bahamas this Spring, let’s bring those tropical feelings home! Fried Snapper is a Bahamian staple, and if topped with a coconut-y slaw even more so! Sip on some homemade Bahama Mamas (coconut rum blended with loads of fresh fruit juices) and rock out to the ultimate seaside band…The Beach Boys.

Setting the Vibe: The Beach Boys Greatest Hits

South Padre Island

The most Spring Break excitement had in Texas! Every March swarms of folks head to these beaches for sun and 24 hour fun. For the cooped and contained, bring the best of Tex in for a little house party for two. Being in close proximity to the Louisiana coast, there is quite a melding of flavors going on in South Padre. Po’Boys are all the rage, and why not get culinarily creative, Gulf Style, with some Crab Cake Po’ Boys. Make a big batch of Boozy Texas Sweet Tea (that’s a lemony mix made with sweet tea vodka) and boot scoot to some honky tonk country tunes!

Seaside Eats: Crab Cake Po Boys

Beachy Bevies: Texas Sweet Tea

Setting the Vibe: Upbeat Country station on Spotify.

Miami

Art Deco architecture, beautiful people and sun-shiny beaches make Miami’s South Beach a total Spring Break hot spot. Staycationers can bring the Miami heat to their abode with some local flavors, frozen cocktails and body moving music. Mojo sauce is a combination of garlic and citrus and is the ultimate marinade for fresh seafood in Miami. Mojo Scallops is a classy seaside dish found all over South Beach. Partner that with the iconic Miami Vice cocktail (combination of a Strawberry Daiquiri and a Pina Colada, swirled together) and some Latin-pop rhythms and you’re ‘figuratively’ cruising the beachy strip!

Beachy Bevies: Miami Vice

Setting the Vibe: Anything by Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine
