Summer of Crab Legs: Our Favorite Recipes
As the weather warms, we retire the heavy comfort foods for something a little more lighter, brighter and seasonal~using up all those fabulous flavors that Summer produces.
This Summer we’re all about the Crab Legs! They are extremely versatile, especially to Summer cooking staples like; grilling, smoking and salad making.
Here are 7 creative Crab Leg recipes for the summer.
Grilled Crab Legs
This recipe from Hey Grill Hey, highlights crab legs in a truly spectacular fashion. Split crab legs are basted in a glorious butter sauce seasoned with garlic, basil and lemon. The grill is set on a lower than normal temperature to keep the butter (and crab clusters) from burning and requires a constant baste for optimum flavor. The work pays off with delicious results!
Smoked Crab Legs
Trager Grills really has the market covered on approachable smoking. Although, you don’t necessarily need their smoker to accomplish this recipe, it does act as a great guide for the novice. You can also easily substitute their rub, seasoning blends and BBQ for your favorites (like Old Bay or a smoky Texas-style rub/sauce).
The final pièce de résistance in this recipe is this buttery BBQ sauce (which is really quite brilliant, I never thought of combining butter and BBQ sauce before) that’s brushed over the crab legs throughout the smoking process~yum yum yum.
Avocado, Mango and King Crab Rolls
No Spoons Necessary have developed one of our favorite Summer sandwiches! This combination of crab leg meat, mango and avocado (along with a little jalapeño heat) is magical~sweet, tangy and savory~all in one bite. If you’re a fan of the New England-style lobster rolls, you’ll love this creative adaptation.
King Crab and Potato Salad
Eating Well crafted this recipe with Summer in mind. Green beans, red potatoes, fresh basil and picked King Crab meat all tossed together in this light and tangy lemon garlic mustard dressing. We find that this recipe makes for great use of crab leg leftovers, and can be served as a main salad entree or as a side dish (for a very impressive potluck).
Dungeness Crab Gazpacho
If you have yet to make gazpacho for yourself, let this be your first homemade introduction. And, for sure, pick the hottest day of the year to consume, you’ll be happy you did!
Tasting Table’s team really outdid themselves with this refreshing recipe. Fresh tomatoes, chilies and cucumbers are blended together and seasoned harmoniously (with garlic, sea salt, Sherry vinegar and cilantro) before being topped with some of the best crab the West Coast can offer, Dungeness!
Summer Tomato, Corn and Crab Salad
This Skinnytaste recipe just screams Summer! Vine ripe tomatoes, shucked corn, avocado, red onion and a little cilantro pair so well with picked crab leg meat. Easily assembled and extremely versatile, we love this recipe scooped with crispy tortillas chips, topped over eggs in the morning, topped over grilled steaks for dinner or, simply, on it’s own~ just a stunning salad.
Thai Crab Salad
If we could hand out Summer recipe awards it would be to The Spruce Eats and their Thai Crab Salad. First, the dressing! A creamy coconut and lime concoction that’s the right combo of sweet and tangy~a very suitable companion to picked crab legs.
The salad itself adds some lovely crunch and flavor with cabbage, carrots, bean sprouts and peanuts. A little smattering of cilantro and the option to spice it up with fresh chilies, adds just the right amount of herbaceous heat. Delicious!!
It’s not the Summer of Crab Legs without…the Crab Legs!
And we have you covered! We have four options for you from our Alaskan Crab Leg catalog; Alaskan Snow Crab Legs, Colossal Alaskan King Crab Legs, Colossal Dungeness Crab Legs and (our personal favorite) the Alaskan Crab Leg Sampler.
These meaty crabs are caught in the cool crisp waters of the North Pacific (where all the best big crabs are found). They are caught, cooked and shipped to preserve their freshness and flavor~these crab legs are a fan favorite.
