Seafaring Movie Meal Mashups

Looking for a great way to pass the time? How about a movie meal mashup, a combination of some of the best sea-themed movies paired with a great seafood meal! An in-home dinner and a show.

We’ve listed out five of the best seafaring movies and partnered them with a tasty dinner idea. We’ll also provide any recipes or tips to making the meal as easy to recreate as possible, so that way you can get to watching your movie that much faster!

Jaws

The Best Movie for…

Thrills and chills! This iconic classic is a nail biter, and pure Steven Spielberg gold! When a killer shark unleashes chaos on a beach community, it’s up to a local sheriff, a marine biologist, and an old seafarer to hunt the beast down.

The Best Mashup Meal…

I think a little comfort food is in order, something to keep us cozy and safe. One of our favorite recipes is Lobster Fondue Mac from instantpot.com, we featured this recipe on one of our previous blog posts Instant Pot Favorites, and it has been a hit every since. Another Jaws themed menu idea (that’s even easier than Instant Pot mac & cheese), is our Clam Chowder . Most certainly a favorite in Amity (or Martha’s Vineyard, where the movie took place).

The Beach

The Best Movie for…

A movie with a little bit of everything; action, drama and romance! Vicenarian Richard (Leonardo DiCaprio) travels to Thailand and finds himself in possession of a strange map. Rumors state that it leads to a solitary beach paradise, a tropical bliss. Excited and intrigued, he sets out to find it.

The Best Mashup Meal…

With Tropical Thailand as a backdrop for this film it’s only fitting to feature a regional meal to suit… Crab Pad Thai  from highheelgourmet.com. This is a great recipe, mapping out all the steps for a very authentic pad thai. Really, really tasty.

Point Break

The Best Movie for…

What doesn’t this movie have!!??? Handsome hunks (Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves), action, suspense and surfing!!! The premise, is pretty simple: An F.B.I. Agent goes undercover to catch a gang of surfers who may be bank robbers. But this movie is soooo much more than that (can you tell this is one of my favorites?).

The Best Mashup Meal…

Taking place in sunny California, we must feature some Cali-cuisine! That’s why we picked this Crunchy California Roll Sushi Bowl for this epic, from tasty.com. You’ll have a much easier time handling this bowl, then trying to eat the inspired sushi (the movie is that good, lol, potential trembles and all).

Cast Away

The Best Movie for…

Tom Hanks is absolutely amazing in this movie! And another film that has a little bit of everything; adventure, drama, romance… highs, lows, maybe a couple boohoos (grab a tissue). We love it!

The premise: A FedEx executive undergoes a physical and emotional transformation after crash landing on a deserted island.

The Best Mashup Meal…

Cast Away was filmed in Fiji (nice locale for a movie shoot, right?) and a fitting meal for this film is inspired by Fujian flavors… Coconut Curry Salmon from a pinchyum.com. Tangy and savory, a true taste of the South Pacific, plus a little soul warming comfort too.

The Endless Summer

The Best Movie for…

A classic, with a sound track that is even more epic than the movie!! A great movie to relive the mid-60’s beach culture.

The crown jewel to ten years of Bruce Brown surfing documentaries. Brown follows two young surfers around the world in search of the perfect wave, and ends up finding quite a few in addition to some colorful local characters.

The Best Mashup Meal…

Although this documentary takes place at beach destinations all over the world, we think that highlighting Hawaii would be most fitting. And with that in mind, we’ve mashed this movie up with Teriyaki Pineapple Shrimp from modernhippiehabits.com.
