Hashbrown & Crab Cake Breakfast Casserole

Cooking Crab Cakes–Winter Edition

Crab cakes are superb all year round. Just because it is winter, doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself to delicious seafood.

We all crave comfort food during the colder months. Crab cakes, in all their fabulous versatility, are the ideal comfort food, especially for the folks who call the Chesapeake Bay area home. To spotlight this comfy versatility, we’re going to showcase our crab cakes in fun, winter-worthy dishes and recipes!

Winter Breakfasts with Crab Cakes

Cold weekend mornings are built for warm breakfasts. Crab cakes are an excellent choice for morning protein— well-seasoned, energy-packed, and adaptable to many savory breakfast applications.

Full English Breakfast with Crab Cakes

A full English breakfast is a substantial, traditional hot morning meal consisting of eggs, mushrooms, baked beans, toast, and, traditionally, bacon, sausages, and black pudding. We suggest trying crabs cakes in this tasty configuration, either in addition to the protein-packed offerings or as a substitution to the sausages and bacon.

Winter Dinners with Crab Cakes

It doesn’t have to be all ‘crab cake sandwiches’ or ‘crab cake platters’. Crab cakes are a great substitution for your everyday proteins—like chicken, steak, or pork! When it comes to dinner, crab cakes are the star!

Marry Me Crab Cakes

This creamy, savory dish is traditionally made with chicken. In our version, crab cakes take center stage! These tender, flavorful jumbo lump crab meat-filled cakes pair perfectly with the tangy sun-dried tomatoes, pungent parmesan, and gobs of garlic. Serve over your favorite pasta noodles or with a side of mashed potatoes.

Ingredients:

  • 4 each 8oz Cameron’s Seafood Crab Cakes
  • 4 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 4 garlic cloves, peeled and minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon powder
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • ⅔ cup sun-dried tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • Pinch black pepper
  • Pinch crushed red pepper flakes
  • Salt, to taste
  • Chopped fresh basil, for garnish

Instructions

  • Portion crab cake mix into patties and set aside.
  • Heat 3 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the crab cakes, and cook for 3 minutes per side or until deeply golden brown. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  • Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet, and reduce heat to medium. Once hot, add the garlic, and sauté for 1 minute.
  • Add the cream, broth, parmesan, sun-dried tomatoes, Italian seasoning, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes to the skillet, and whisk to combine.
  • Bring to a low simmer and keep whisking until the parmesan cheese has melted and incorporated into the sauce. Season to taste with salt.
  • Nestle the crab cakes into the sauce and cook for 5 to 10 minutes or until the crab cakes are cooked through.
  • Garnish with fresh basil before serving.

Butternut Squash Pasta with Crab Cakes

This earthy-sweet squash is well paired with buttery-savory crab cakes. Craft your own homemade butternut squash pasta sauce or use your favorite store bought option, both work well with our fan-favorite crab cakes.

Crab Cake Cacciatore Parmagiana

Typically known as a delicious chicken dish, cacciatore-style sauce (“hunter style”) works well with crab cakes too! The savory tomato-based sauce is well seasoned with herbs, wine, aromatics, mushrooms, and bell peppers. All manner of ingredients that highlight the naturally buttery-sweet flavors of jumbo lump crab meat.

Winter Sides to pair with Crab Cakes

Sauteed, baked, or skillet-fried, our crab cakes are excellent on their own too! If you’re looking for some seasonal sides that pair well with our award winning cakes, here are some of our favorites…

Sweet & Spicy Brussel Sprouts

Brussel sprouts are a great winter season side dish. We love a honey and sriracha glaze on our roasted brussels. That sweet and spicy combination, paired with the bitter brussels sprouts, work deliciously well with baked or skillet-fried crab cakes.

Winter Slaw with Kale, Cabbage, and Oranges

This light, bright, and citrusy slaw is a tasty addition to your crab cake-themed winter menu. This recipe is chock full of seasonal veggies, providing a healthy reprieve to many of our heartier comfort food recommendations. Those same bright and veggie-full ingredients balance the buttery-sweetness of the crab meat nicely.

Ingredients:

Dressing:

  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons white balsamic vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice

  • Salt, to taste

  • 2 cups shredded green cabbage
  • ½ cup shredded red cabbage
  • ½ cup shredded carrot
  • ¼ cup chopped scallions
  • ¼ cup chopped pecans
  • ¼ cup dried cranberries
  • ½ orange, peeled and portioned into segments

Instructions

  • To make the dressing, place olive oil, vinegar, orange juice, honey, mustard, and pepper in a large bowl, whisk to combine. Season the dressing to taste with salt.
  • Add the kale, cabbages, carrot, scallions, pecans, and cranberries to the bowl with the dressing, toss to coat.

Mashed Garlicky Sweet Potatoes

Sweet potatoes are in demand during the winter months. A more savory style of mashed sweet potatoes offer a delicious presentation when paired with our crab cakes. We absolutely love a garlicky mashed sweet potato, seasoned with earthy herbs (rosemary, thyme, and sage). Simple but effective.
