Household Holiday Hors D’oeuvres

Our holiday celebrations might be a little smaller this year but that doesn’t mean they should lack in flavor, substance or merriment!

Here are some of our all-time favorite seafood hors d’ oeuvres recipes, curated from some of our favorite chefs….And, as a bonus these recipes can easily be adapted to serve a party of few.

No Schrimp Shrimp Dip

We’ve all had the classic crab dip (equally delicious, don’t get me wrong) but…have you had shrimp dip? This is one of our favs, garlicky, creamy, dip-able and delicious. Serve this scrumptious dip alongside your favorite crackers or crostini.

Classy Crab Toasts

Spruce up your holiday appetizer game with an elevated crab toast. These tasty treats allow for some culinary mastery (flex those chef muscles my homebound friend!)…Homemade aioli with oodles of garlic and lemon drizzled over a lightly fennel-flavored lump crab salad~can you say, yum!

And since we’re on the subject of crab…our Crab Cakes make for exquisite appetizers. Just simply portion them into smaller patties!

Lively Lobster Cocktail

Leave it to Bobby Flay to have created one of our go-to appetizers. These lobster avocado cocktails are flavored with fresh lime juice, horseradish, tarragon and a dash of hot sauce. Chef Flay serves these in little shot glasses, for individual portions, but we love this heaped into a bowl and served with some tortilla chips to dip.

Savory Salmon Tartare

Move over steak, salmon is the new tartare! A little different from the traditional French recipe, with a creative substitution of playful Asian ingredients; soy sauce, mirin (rice wine) and cilantro. Served with some crunchy wonton chips, this delish dish is perfect for an upscale holiday munchie.

Classic Crispy Calamari

Why not treat yourself to some classic fried calamari this holiday season?! We adore this recipe using buttermilk and a wickedly delicious seasoned flour (salt, paprika, garlic and pepper) for optimum crunch. Serve with your favorite dip (be that marinara, cocktail sauce or remoulade) and a few lemon wedges for that little squeeze of citrus.

Can’t Go Wrong with Crab Legs

Especially if you’re planning on having a much smaller household-sized group this year, why not go all out with some crab legs? I can’t stress the importance of treating yourself well this holiday and crab legs have to count as self-care (for me they do!). Appetizer portions can easily be accomplished by splitting the legs into smaller pieces (breaking them apart at the joints and splitting the portions length-wise to expose the meat). This easy-peasy recipe has you tossing the cooked crab legs in a garlic butter sauce (finger-lickin’ good).
