Tis’ the season for outdoor eatin’! And nothing beats a hearty, mouth watering spread of delightful dishes–no matter the BBQ, potluck or picnic setting. 

Want to know our secret to impressing our al fresco dining guests? Crabmeat! We put that buttery-sweet meat in (or on) just about everything (and the masses rejoice!). Here’s our favorite crab-infused BBQ, potluck, and picnic ideas. 

 

Crabby Deviled Eggs 

Top your deviled eggs with a beautiful piece of jumbo lump crab meat! Instead of paprika, we finish our crabmeat-adorned deviled eggs with a little Old Bay seasoning and some fresh chopped chives. An easy alternative that leaves everyone wanting more! 

 

Blue Crab-spiked Creamy Pasta Salad 

Be it macaroni or shells, your creamy crab pasta salad will be the top pick at the picnic. We shy away from sweeter ingredients when crafting this pasta salad, swapping the sweet relish for chopped dill pickles, letting the natural sweetness of the crab meat shine. Use either jumbo lump or lump crabmeat. Both excellent choices. 

 

Cold Crab Dip & Crudites 

If the weather is sweltering, opt for a cold dip instead of a hot one. We love this recipe for Cold Crab Dip & Crudites. It is not only easy to make, but versatile. Easy to pack-up too! Crisp Summer veggies and creamy, well-seasoned, lump crabmeat-festooned dip… a match made in potluck heaven! 

 

Corn Salad with Crabmeat

Whether you’re serving a festive esquites (Mexican-style corn salad) or a zesty Cowboy Caviar, jumbo lump crab meat will turn your corn salad into a WOW-salad. No additional ingredients necessary, simply pop some crabmeat pieces on top or gently fold into your salad. Corn and crabmeat are as simpatico as peas and carrots, a winning combination everytime.

We have a fabulous crab roll recipe (and some crab roll recipe alternatives, here). All bound to be a delicious hit at any gathering, and coming together in under 30 minutes. So, even if we’re rushing out the door, this dish is the go-to for any last minute invites or ‘oops! I forgot I was supposed to bring a dish’, dishes. 

 

Caprese (or any tomato dish, for that matter) with Crabmeat 

Just as corn is a well-paired ingredient with crabmeat, so too are Summer-ripe tomatoes. This simple, crabby addition to your Caprese salads, tomato cucumber salads, or plain-ol’ slices of maters, will have guests coming back for seconds and thirds. The buttery sweetness of the crabmeat balances the juicy-acidic tomatoes in harmonious bliss. 

 

Crab Tea Sandwiches 

If it’s a tea time affair, enhance those mini sandwiches with the rich, sweet, and buttery elements of crabmeat. We love sneaking bits of jumbo lump or lump crabmeat into our tea sandwiches. It pairs perfectly with all the classics; cucumber, pimento cheese, tomato, or ham… magic in every blue crab-infused bite.
